SDE Feature Class
Purpose
This layer is an illustration of the floodplain areas in Jefferson County. The purpose of this layer is to identify floodplain areas for development purposes, in addition to the building of sewer and drainage systems. The Louisville Metro Floodplain Management Ordinance defines specific rules and regulations that apply when any type of development takes place within the floodplain. These regulations were developed in order to maximize the wise and safe use of flood prone areas of Jefferson County, to ensure that flood levels are not increased, and to minimize public and private losses from flooding. The floodplain layer is used by MSD's engineering department and by the GIS department, in addition to any type of developer who plans to build within the floodplain.
Description
Polygon layer showing local regulatory floodplain areas within Jefferson County. This layer differs from the 2003 lrfp in that the floodplain has expanded since 2003, including the Ohio River. It has attributes that include the watersheds in Jefferson County. This layer is updated as needed.
